Artist's Description

Cumbrian Mountain Express hauled by a Stanier “Black Five” topping the grade at Bryn station, near Wigan, The “Black 5” was introduced in 1934 and was so successful that it continued to be built until 1951.
The “Black 5” locomotive was one of the most successful and popular steam locomotives ever developed and was a real “Jack of all Trades” being equally at home hauling passenger or freight trains.
Please note that this locomotive was NOT in green livery it is the foliage reflecting on the shiny, wet, paintwork.
