Shadows on the Fog

There are ghosts all around us,
Our deeds and words they log,
Spectres of our darker sins,
The shadows on the fog.

They cast upon the ground,
Sharp and dark and long,
We never speak aloud of them,
The shadows on the fog.

We hide them in the night,
Conceal them in our wrongs,
They lurk about in others,
When we believe they’ve gone.

We lock them in our closets,
We leave them there to rot,
And never share with anyone,
Those lies that we forgot.

We try to run away from them,
Yet we always hear their throng,
We cannot get rid of them,
The shadows on the fog.

The sun may never rise,
To disperse the painful smog,
So we must to learn to live with them,
Our shadows on the fog.

The imagery of the fog hiding our deeper ‘demons’ is superb!
Bring on the wind and sun to sweep and shine me thinks :)

  • I like this. We certainly do look to the sun to break it up, don’t we? Thanks Tempest! :D
