The Sea Eagle

Fate rides on eagle’s wings for the dune dwellers …

The sky, the sea so blue,
And where the land ends
With browns and greens -
White sands, darker hues.

Above, the eagle soars
Over postcard scenes
On majestic wings.
Kaleidoscope patterns,
Gliding, watching, hovering.

Effortless flight, no sound
To warn the dune dwellers
Of approaching danger.
A grey shadow slides
Over undulating sand.

The ghost crab ventures
Furtively from dark lair,
A lizard basks in the sun.
Too late to hide.
Too late to run.
Death rides the warm air,
Then island life goes on.
