Artist's Description

Albanian born Raif works this small market garden in Dingley.
He has held the lease on this land for ten years. Owned by the government, it is within a corridor of land earmarked for construction of the Dingley Freeway.
I talked to Raif as he worked on his tractor.
“This is hard land……sandy, lean…and dry. I water from the creek….the creek is shit this year……no water……hard land”.
His face cracked into a leathery grin as he tapped the engine of the tractor with a spanner and drew on his cigarette. “….and the hydraulics has shit itself.”
