This cries out to be a coastal-scape but it yields to abstraction. Very lovely!!

  • thanks very much Bruce

Lovely painting! I spent 6 weeks there on holidays when I graduated from High School way back in 1970, and at that time there was a picture theatre positioned next to the pub. Because there was no aircon, they had windows open between the two buildings, and you COULD NOT HEAR A THING in the picture theatre (screening at the time was “Dunk Island”). The seating was oldfashioned canvas deck chairs – I kid you not! The local “convenience” store used to close whenever the weather got too hot, and they would hang a “gone fishing” sign on the door. A really beautiful part of the world, where my Aunty owned a pineapple farm and my cousin worked as a nurse at the hospital right across the road from the beach, my Aunt Livinia used to squeeze crushed pineapples in a tea towel over a plastic bucket for juice, and cooking stew over a tripod fire in the back yard to stop the house from getting too hot. I went to Yeppoon a few months ago, and it has definitely updated to 2011 standards – unfortunately.

  • Thanks Christine – I used to spend a lot of time in Yeppoon must have been around the same time you describe, and Emu Park and Cooee bay – I recall the can toad hunts, the old theatre! (The saggy canvas seating!) Certainly not as it was, time moves along – I am glad we were about then and have our special memories of a beautiful place. Your Aunt Livinia’s pineapple juice sounds delicious – images like that take me back immediately.
