I love this work John. Makes me shudder and tear up.

  • John Douglas replied

I am glad it provoked a reaction Paul but am sad too. I always try and think that there is funny in all sadness and sadness in all humour. The folly of our life I suppose.

this is so disturbing. the line quality in the sketching really creates this violent atmosphere. I would think it is from a real life situation. this has such power

  • John Douglas replied

Thanks John. And yes indeed all from this series are from real life situations I have witnessed. On a phase of documenting some local history that doesn’t make it in to books on the area.

I live within walking distance of the London King’s Cross In the eighties and nineties it was like the picture. Now, with the sparkly Eurostar Terminal, it is cauterized and sanitised. Very emotive artwork, John.

  • John Douglas replied

Seems to be the way of it – more and more homogenised ‘cleaned up’ sanitised and gutted at Sydney’s Kings Cross too. I recall London’s Kings cross form the 80s and 90s, what a shame it has met the same fate.

Love this dark humour, John! Your comical style gives so many dimension to the issue.

  • John Douglas replied

Thansk Paul. I always think there is humour in the darkest moment and sadness in the funniest and try to convey some of that, so am glad it worked here :)
