la corde = the rope. There’s a lot in this set, a sad series but I really like them so hope you do too.

WOW John, great to see some acrylics again, love it!!

  • John Douglas replied

Thanks Dani. As much as I love the smell and feel of oils I never stray too far from acrylics or gouache as I can’t stand waiting for anything to dry – too many ideas not enough time, so yes for now it is conte for drawings and back to acrylics – yay!

I LOOOVE them John. Like all your painting they hit you immediately. These make me think – go deeper. The exploration of a more severe side of you. I’m in awe on how you switch like a camellia.

  • John Douglas replied

hah yeah I am a butterfly – staying within one style or making my own ‘style’ bores me, I am much happier just doing the paintings as they tell me they want done. This is a sad series, and am glad to have you along :)

this series is incredible. I had to go to your page and see them all together and then view each one over and over. I’m trying to figure out the story they tell and can’t. but there is such emotion and violence and sadness I feel coming from them. very powerful work my friend. also the black and white really adds to the mood. almost like looking at an old newspaper photo of a scene from a war.

  • John Douglas replied

Thanks John- this series seemed to get to the heart of something and I am happy with them. The story is not linear nor too literal, but may become clear(er) over the upcoming posts, and if not I hope you enjoy the ride! I am really enjoying black and white again right now.
