Squatfest 09
The 9th annual Sydney Squatfest Film Festival. Each year the Squatfest is held in a different squat or disused site in Sydney. The festival exists to bring the circumstances of urban housing to light, and to provide an alternative film venue because, as the Squatfest folk say, certain other short film festivals in Sydney “suck corporate c…”.
Squatfest is organised by artists’ collective Squatspace

Sounds like an awesome event – shame I didn’t know about it as I would have loved to attend. And yes, the ‘other’ short film festival has grown to bland proportions :-(
John Douglas replied
yeah seems to build each year and get a likttle more known – next year you must come David – is very YOU.

its cool to live in an area where REAL art is given a chance in a REAL environment, John. You did the Film? You are a fimmaker too? Captivating. I wish I could have a better view. Enjoyed it very much.
John Douglas replied
Yes I do make films, and thanks! The squatfest is one of only a few alternative art events that have survived around here, but am glad it (and the few others) do exist, and always keep up my dreams of others to follow. The original fomrat of my film can be seen here
