How dces one go about getting to a location like this to take a pic like this? It’s one of my life aspirations to take a erruption pic. This pic is so enticing. Beautiful.

Thanks Gottography. I am very fortunate in that my ‘day job’ is as a travel photographer, so I get to many beautiful places.

Wow, so jealous right now. Who, may I ask, do you work for?
John Douglas replied
I work regularly for 9 publications, occasionally for another 6, and then there’s always a one-off here and there, so kept pretty busy! :)
Trenton Purdy

Cathie Brooker
Hot stuff
John Douglas replied
thansk – and what do you think of the photo?
Cathie Brooker
It looks like you have taken a risk getting in so close. What time did you take the photo. It looks like you stayed up their all night. Love the colours contrasted against the black.
John Douglas replied
guess there’s some risk to being on the edge of an active volcano. And with my great head for heights – that was my main worry! I stayed up in to the early evening and am glad I did – was when I got this shot.
Casey Herman
Magnificent photo, John!! I searched for “volcano” to find your wonderful image. Great stuff!

Incredible! How close were you and what lens did you use? This is absolutely brilliant! (pardon the pun) There is a group called In the Eye of Danger that would benefit from this addition.
John Douglas replied 6 days ago
Thanks GN for the kind words and group suggestion. No particular lense was used for this shot, it was just a basic point and shoot camera. I can’t recall the exact distance but close enough!
