New Island
New Island is the most southwesterly island of the Falklands Islands. Like the rest of the Falklands, New Island does not have any native trees.
Interestingly, although the Falklands are usually very windy, the islands have a narrow temperature range. The Falklands are about as close to the South Pole as London is to the North Pole, but the climate is temperate year-round. It rarely snows, and when it does, it rarely sticks.

lovely, not what I imagined the Falklands to be like

ots of the islands that comprise the Falklands have only one or two families/people living on them, quite beautiful to see rolling grassy hills and clear clean colours, a treat

How unusual – no trees. A most interesting description. I did not know this about this island. Fantastic shot. It is expansive., yet the eye is drawn into that corridor just left of center and into the mist far away. John this is a beautiful piece of photography.

I just have to add this comment as well: You have taken what most would see as a barren, uninteresting land and shown us what a beautiful, wind swept vista this place is. How fortunate that you were there to see it yourself. And how kind of you to show it to us who may never get the chance.

Thansk very much Helen, am glad it came across. I love “empty” places like this. I think you capture this sense very well in your urbanscapes also, one reason I love them so much, as well as the amazing social statements you make with them.

This just speaks to me of indefinite vastness and freedom, space to be oneself in.
John Douglas replied
Thanks, that was same for me – I love spaces like this.
