Acer Trees in Autumn by

Westonbirt is the National Arboretum (England) & the 600 acre site has one of the world’s finest collections of trees & shrubs.
The Arboretum was started by Robert Holford who lived at nearby Westonbirt House. The arboretum was given to the Forestry Commission in 1956.

The display of over 18,000 specimens provide something of interest throughout the year with the most beautiful times being Spring with the first buds of magnolia and rhododendrons followed by the Autumn with the most wonderful colours of the Japanese Acers.

There are over 17 miles of pathways to follow and the Macmillan Way uses the Broad Drive for its route through the area woodland park. The Arboretum also hosts events during the year including several music concerts, a Festival of Wood, where over a hundred craftsmen display their work and the Enchanted Wood leading upto Christmas when the arboretum is a blaze of artificial lights. During July a series of concerts take place including classical music and pop stars.

Facilities include a gift shop, plant centre and Maples restaurant, there is a refreshment area near the gift shop. This is a five star attraction and is a place that visitors to the Cotswolds must see
