Artist's Description

One of three airports to serve Washington DC, USA, Dulles was conceived as a new concept in airport design and was the first to use specially built “buses” to transport passengers from the terminal building directly to the doors of the airplane, parked some distance away, to save excessive walking to the appropriate departure gate.
The Architect was Eero Saarinen (Finnish/US) who died aged 51 in 1961.
The Terminal building was constructed between 1958-1962 and the swooping roof gives the expression of flight.
The Architectural Practice was continued by Kevin Roche and John Dinkerloo and is still one of the leading firms in the USA.

My photo was a colour slide, taken in 1967 !
I loved this teminal building then,( as a young architectural student) and still do, but I expect it has been added to/ altered since those days !
