Hi
I have a photo that I took that I wish to make look old, so I would like to add some grain, grit etc to itand also make it look like it has been folded up as well. I have tried a few things but it looked pretty ordinary, so I’d love any suggestions from anyone who has a bit of time to spare to assist me. However, being the poor artist I am, I don’t have access to Photoshop. I am using gimp so please keep this in mind.
Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Sarah, all of the textures I use on my photos are just other photos I have taken of various subjects, eg, walls, concrete, paper, wood, anything that has texture, colour etc. I then just lay them on top of each other using Picasa.

Thanks, Sylvia. Never heard of Picasa so I’ll have to have a play around with it, after the download finishes.

I think Picasa is pretty good for basic editing, it’s all I use for my stuff…........... and it’s free!!

ok, I’ve downloaded it and had a play around, but not sure on how to lay each pic on top of each other. Do you know of any tutorials on how to do this (or can you be my teacher?).

Oh I found out how to do it. Thanks for your help.

Sorry Sarah, had to duck to the shops. Glad you worked it out. It’s really simple. You can use as many shots as you like. Sometimes I just play around and create images to use purely for texture. You’ll notice the files are quite small once you’ve created your collage, I use Gimp to resize them.

Sarah – I use PhotoShop but i know Gimp is alot like it. Use the texture that you want to add to the photo as a layer on top of the photo and then change the Blending mode of how those 2 layers interact
