ISO 6400

ISO 6400

Folks we are here in the Danish Catacombes..The Metro of Copenhagen.
Driving forward by a speed of ± 80-100 km/h
(± 50-65m p h )

In this situation what be done in this scares light situation..?

Flash ? No.. irritating reflection in to the METRO glass
Like you see sometimes in Zoo’s..people flashing in dark Aquarium ..it never work;
(unless you and put the lens tight to the glass.. same for flash if possible.)

What than ? Yes..pump up the ISO!

Now for some less pricey camera’s 400 ISO is absolute MAX and lots of grain / blurr to see..
Some Camera’s are fine till 800 ..even some to 1600 .. but Brother o Brother that is a lot of ISO

Let me explain something. A normal SLR (I have two) has a small chip and ± 8 – till 12 million pixels are squeezed on to that ..That is partly responsible for grain at higher ISO

Now we all know the term FULL frame Camera’s
The FULL frames have quite larger chips but are very expensive
Often 2-3x the price of a Normal DSLR
My Canon 40 D (excellent Camera-10 mill pix) did cost me 1/3 of my latest 5D Mark II
Same as my 450D (12,3 mill pix)
Why than am I so stupid to buy such an expensive camera?

Among others it can make photo’s .. out of hand !.. standing in a dark Metro ..only TL lights
by 6 4 0 0 ISO ! and all looking still nicely sharp

Is this a perfect photo ? no .. we always can do better but I thought this would work fine example to use and explain to some beginning RB members the use of ISO

Thank you for reading my MAMBO JAMBO Folks..
John

This could out the back of the train or out the front. Either way we’re zooming; I forget this is a still picture, a frozen moment, the forward or backward thrust is creating high G-force. A brilliantly kinetic picture.

My dream to up to one of the pricier cameras. I just upped from XTi to T1i for 50% higher pixel range. I am not at the point I think my needs justify the upgrade to something that can do 6400ISO. Here i am again at the end of many many comments. I read your facts and explanations with interest. And i looked at your photograph with more than that. Since i have not been on for a few days i had to scan your recent shots and decide which one was worthy of taking time to comment well. I chose this one. it is really good. it gives the feeling of movement and speed without sacrificing clarity and detail…no blurrying to show the speed yet the slightly way lines of the tunnel on the right side tell you quite clearly that you were moving very fast. Super that you could show the racing of the train this way. I think the camera helped but you still needed to know how to use it correctly. Remember…”It is not just the gun but also the gunner.”. Super job!

Without a doubt the ISO performance of the 5D Mark II is almost without peer in the DSLR market – I still get the heebie jeebies pushing it to the max on mine when I need it, but mostly I rest way down at ISO 50. I say almost without peer as the Nikoff D3 is definitely comparable. After that there’s daylight between them and The Rest [excuse the pun]. Awesome shot btw.

You weren’t driving the train at the same time, were you?!
I think what makes this a fantastic shot is the composition, not the ISO (although that helps). Maybe I’m not so impressed by high ISO because I had compact cameras with ISO1600 and 3200 since DSLRs could only dream of this (4 years = ages in digital photography!) and I hardly use flash (aquarium or not aquarium). Now, if I could only persuade the Tube drivers to let me ride shotgun… :-)

Erm… just… wow! Seriously, that is great! I still cannot get my head around ISO… at least I taught myself OK in aquarium situations, but not in my friend’s wedding. At least I think my ISO was too high which is the 1st answer I have about the grain. I need to keep practising :P I am learning slowly but surely, maybe one day when I am rich I shall get a better camera :-P At least I can say that I do not use the flash for any photos :) :-)

    Congratulations on your features!!!
