Reflection of a Lost Soul

Artist's Description

This shot was also made with my camera club’s end-of-year competition in mind, under the theme of “Reflections”. I used my little wooden mannikin and 4 sheets of glass (one floor, 3 walls) over a black background to create as much reflections as I could.
This is what gave me the idea to begin with:
My little man was a bit scorched in the process when I tried to put him into a circle of fire instead of simply tracing a line in front of him. Had a moment of panic, put out the fire, wiped the glass and started over with only a line this time.
I didn’t submit the photo to the camera club’s competition after all because too many people thought that they were not reflections but flames surrounding the mannikin. I was afraid to be considered off theme.
Nikon D7000, Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro
Focal length 50mm, ISO-200, 1/200 sec. @ f/16
No flash. One flashlight held above the mannikin’s head. Processed in Lightroom 3.
More info (in French) is available in my blog with several pics of the setup.
h3. Project 1/52
This is part of a personal project I have recently undertaken but which has become a fantastic group project.
One single theme photographed differently every week, for 52 weeks.

Click here to visit the Project 1/52 Facebook group. There are currently 44 members, each with a different theme and their photo albums are visible to the public. I tell you, there are little gems in there!
Sorry, but it’s not possible to join anymore… maybe next year!

My own theme is called “All Fired Up” and consists in photographing flames in any form, ranging from matches, to fire camps and anything in between!
