The shelter where I work as a volunteer photographer just started publishing a Featured Pet of the Week on their web site and Facebook page.

This is the first pooch to get the honour! Penny is a 6-month-old Pitbull with a playful and sunny disposition. She has to leave the shelter real soon, because she can’t live in a cage; it makes her very, very grumpy. Outside the cage, she’s as sweet as can be!

Nikon D7000
Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D

Focal length 50mm
ISO-320
Aperture f/5,6
Shutter 1/60 sec.

Shot in Aperture Priority, with SB-600 firing straight up, but bounced back with a DIY bounce card similar to this . Processed in Lightroom 3.3 and Photoshop CS4 to add one of my textures .

Despite my fear of pit bulls, I have to admit that Penny has a wonderful face and gentle eyes! I just love all your dog shots Johanne and think you are doing them such a marvelous service!

  • Thank you Joanne! What can I say, I’m an animal lover. Dogs, cats, birds, mice, all of them… aah, excluding pet spiders perhaps! LOL!

“Pitbull with a playful and sunny disposition” … I have to say those are not words I expected to see together in a sentence – EVER!
Kudos for the work you’re doing Jo. Hope they all find loving homes.

  • I swear she is like that! LOL! My helper had problems to keep her still; she only wanted to lick her face, jump and play, or roll over for a belly rub. Whenever I moved forward for a close-up, she would come at me, her tail wagging furiously, and stuck her wet nose into my lens! :-D

Thank you for the kudos, my friend! :-) (I just came back from photographing a beagle for next week!)
