Uploaded for a challenge.

This is my dog Baloo, playing with his toy bone.

Baloo is a 21-month old Briard, probably mixed with a mystery breed. In this pic you can see his eyes, because I recently cut his bangs.

I was looking for a companion for my Labrador mix Lucky , and he was given to me in June by a family who was going to send him to the shelter if they did not find a new home for him before the end of that week.

Baloo soon made a nice place for himself in our house and in our hearts. He is very sweet and affectionate, and Lucky seems very fond of him.

Focal length 18mm, ISO-100
Aperture f/3,8, Shutter 1/125 sec.

Nikon D60, SB-600 flash
AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G VR

Shot in manual mode.

Awwww…….Baloo is adorable :) Great picture Johanne and good luck with the challenge :)

  • Thank you Shelly, he’s a real teddy bear! He’s always very close to me and sleeps at my feet under my desk whenever I’m at the computer.

aqww… Baloo is one lucky sweetie! a reprieve and a great haircut!

  • Thank you Nadine! I’m not so sure about the haircut. He has beautiful oval eyes, so I’m glad to see them, but he was kinda cute with his shaggy face too!

here in Perth he’d need to shorn like a sheep for the summer!

  • Not this guy! LOL! He doesn’t have a very thick undercoat, so the overcoat (more like hair) protects him against sunburns. It also provides some insulation agains the heat.

We had a very warm and damp summer this year averaging between 27 and 36°C (40 to 45°C with the heat index). He was more comfortable than my black lab with her thick undercoat.

We had to walk and play very early in the mornings because even at midnight, the temperature still remained high… They say that the average temperature in Montreal this summer was 3,5°C above normal.

yup, that’s as warm as we get it here too – my little cocker spaniel is so much happier after a haircut, all his curls cut off but enough left to protect against sunburn. But he’s 107 yrs old now (almost 16) so he doesn’t worry so much about his looks :) The English Shepherds look the strangest with all their long hair cut off – that’s what made me think poor Baloo would be subjected to the same humiliation here.
