Who am I? Who shall I be?

A teenager’s world may often seem to be largely virtual. Whereas they might feel shy and awkward in the real world, the fantasy of their virtual universe allows them to shine and become any person they would like to be as long as they are logged in.

My 15-year-old son Phillip is shy and usually keeps a low profile. He asked me for a sexy, dark, tough cookie look for his photoshoot.

This is a composite image made from Phil’s photo, in natural light, with a shot of The Matrix movie DVD’s packaging. Both photos were made with my Nikon D60 while testing a Tamron 90mm f2,8 lens for sharpness and DOF.

Processed in PhotoshopCS4 with various adjustment layers and a grid pattern layer in overlay.

First off the portrait itself is absolutely great Johanne! The framing and the intensity in his eyes are awesome. But the final product is really quite amazing. Great art with some meaning :)

  • Thank you Shelly! He is very bright and intense, and it shows especially when he is gaming.

This look was easy for him to do, as it comes to him naturally. Phillip has a mild form of Asperger Syndrom (in the autism range) and consequently, his acting abilities and range of expressions are somewhat limited. The good side to this condition is that he didn’t know how to lie when he was younger… LOL!

immediately recognizes The Matrix in it. Great edit! Phil will be The One… Look in his eyes tells me so.

  • Thank you Peter! I made him read the replies, and it made him smile when he saw that you called him The One! :-)

Wow Johanne, you really achieved the look your son asked for here. Such a bold, dark, intense portrait, cleverly overlaid with the Matrix image. Excellent work and creativity, both of you :)

  • Thank you Pete! Phillip has read your reply, and it made him happy that people liked his shot. It boosted his self-confidence, and he has accepted to model for me again very soon. :-)

Wow! Quel intensité dans ce regard…. c’est différent du regard sweet qu’il peut nous faire quand on le rencontre. Très beau montage.

  • Thank you Sis! Well, I have seen that look now and then, but he doesn’t use it often when he feels happy (like with you and his cousins). :-)
