Faerie of the Pond by Johanne Brunet

Living by the pond, she is the faerie of her home, and spends countless hours taking care of her place, and her hundreds of children. When she has a few minutes left, which is not very often, she loses herself in the joy of lovingly tending her miniature garden, where she likes to take a few moments to meditate before retiring at night.

The background image is a photo of a natural stone stairway bordered with day lilies that I shot at night in a park near my house A picture of a frog that I made last summer, which I rotated and used twice with different blending modes, colour overlay and drop shadow
The wings belong to the photo I made of a monarch below left, which I transformed into the wing below right.
This is the photo I used to create the wing to the right Using the photo on the left, I isolated the wings, duplicated, rotated, scaled, distorted, inverted, applied fractalius filter and modified hue, saturation, levels and curves, and applied a slight inner glow
Next came the pond and the light effect:
I used the Water Ripple plugin from Redfield Plugins to create the pond using a copy of my background image. Used twice with different blend modes and opacities Puff of clouds made in Photosop with Render Clouds and gradient filter. Used once for light halo around the frog and once to light up the pond a bit

Among the various effects that I used (26 layers in all, including the numerous adjustment layers), there was a lighting effect Render > Lighting effect on the frog and two layers of fog created with Render > Difference clouds .

Superb work sister! Love the composition and colors. Very clever!

  • Thank you Sister! :-) You’re a frog, I’m a frog, kiss me! And I’ll turn into a prince, suddenly … Kept thinking of Charlebois and hearing the song in my head all the time I worked on this project, which means a few hours…

I like this work very much Johanne , specially the iridescent colors of the frog, how in the world did you manage to give it this shining metallic look on the colors??? Love the gentle and soft light spec in the back , gives it, in deed a magical touch and mood, brilliant work, bravo, bravo!!!

  • Thank you so much Carole! The magic lies in curves, levels, and color overlays. :-)
