Mermaid
I tried smoke art again last night, and this time it worked really well, thanks to the good advice from my friends Shelly Hiebert and Vikram Franklin . This time, used a black background in a very dark room at night, and held a halogen desk lamp very close to the smoke, but only on one side. It worked!
It is amazing how many shapes we can see in the smoke, depending on the way we look at it, and how we choose to colour it.
After inverting it, I flipped this image vertically (upside down), and I saw a mermaid right away. To me, she seems to be riding on the back of a giant frog.
I played a bit with filters to give some texture to the tail, without entirely losing the smoky effect.

Stunning, Johanne….I see the mermaid immediately too. Incroyable encore!!! :)
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Wendi! Once I saw it, I couldn’t imagine anything else, so it definitely had to be a mermaid… :-)

I love what you’ve done with this one – right away makes it different from ‘normal’ smoke shots!

Ursula Rodgers
I agree with Vikram! Wonderful work Johanne. You’ve really added the personal touch to this!
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Ursula! The tail was already there, and exactly in this shape, so I only had to outline it with the pen tool in order to apply the filter (noise and glass effects), adding a few starbursts to finish.
