The Magic of a New Life

The more I was looking at About Life, Birt and Rebirth, the more I thought that it lacked a little something, some punch, character or purpose. So I made another go at it.

This time, I used three more textures that I created, plus a mushroom photo that I shot last fall during a photowalk in the mountain in St-Bruno, Quebec.

I made a layer of sparkles and starbursts, duplicated and added a slight glow with motion blur to the bottom layer, then lowered opacity.

Used for light halo around the egg Texture I created from scratch on which I applied a fractalius filter. Used twice, rotated, and blurred a bit The mushrooms, obviously

How did you do the glorious twinkles? Fabulous editing. You are hooked!!!! Well done, fab creations

  • Johanne Brunet replied

Thank you so much for your great compliment Celia. I am hooked, indeed! Big time! LOL!

The sparkles were made with a white colour and soft round brushes in various sizes (7px to 17px, I think…) on a new layer. I set brush opacity to 100%, and I made several passes, with hardness varying between 0% and 40% and the brush dynamics set to over 700% spacing, and 30 steps size fading. I traced random loops and curvy trails until my little sparkling cloud was satisfying. I then added a few starbusts with some brushes I had created some weeks ago. I duplicated the layer and applied a 1px gaussian blur, plus a slight motion blur (angle: -30 and distance 48px) to the bottom layer, then reduced opacity until I liked the effect.

“please press refresh”!

OMG!!! I need to translate this in order to bring a chuckle to my other visitors, if you don’t mind.

Besides the fact that she likes this work, my sister says that it made her think of Easter, and seeing the egg, she thought that it was something edible and associated to the egg in the background.

So her first impression when seeing this work was one of bewilderment because she could not figure out what the turkey was doing there!

Carole, thank you so much for your comment and for the laugh. Aahh… you know that mushrooms are edible too? LOL! Please press refresh ...

LOL!!! Love Carole’s comment…. you need a sister to keep you honest!! Now I see the turkey too….. Your creation is amazing and the explanation moreso…. I’ll never manage !!! :)

  • Johanne Brunet replied

Thank you Wendi! My sister’s comment was one the highlights in my day. :-) I thought I couldn’t do it either until I started experimenting and practicing… and practicing… I’m sure you could do it! It’s not so hard, it only takes a lot of patience.
