Red Door, Bubble Knob

Johanne Brunet

Red Door, Bubble Knob

Some churches simply have to greatest doors! I found this one with a vivid red door in Cape May, New-Jersey, USA. Simple hardware with a beautiful patina, polished with use, on a plain bright colourful door.

Finished in 6th position of Top Ten in the WARM: Reds-Oranges-Yellows challenge of the Simple by Design Group on March 8, 2009 . That one was easy, as there were only 9 entries! ;-)

Excellent shot, Johanne! I love the perspective! Simplistic composition and wonderful color contrasts! Great work!

  • Johanne Brunet replied

Wow! You’re fast! Thank you Blair! I’m a bit disappointed that I could not get another angle or a closer shot. This was a side door and the entrance was closed to the public. There were various obstacles in the way, and it was impossible for me to position myself properly. Oh well, maybe next if we go back…

I think this is a great shot. The composition and and angle are great. I don’t think you need to be any closer imo.I love the contrasting colours. It’s great how you can really see all those wonderful textures in both the wood and the metal.

  • Johanne Brunet replied

Thank you Victoria! Problem is that the shot is not as clear as I would have liked because of my location on the sidewalk. I had to zoom in quite a bit and then crop which leaves me with an image unsuitable for larger prints.

Oh, I love this one. In the card format it looks as if the door was really opening. It would make a great inspirational card, something like: “when one door closes, another one opens…” :)

  • Johanne Brunet replied

Thank you so much! I’ve submitted it to Cards: Best of your Best, as a “New House”, a “Housewarming” or a “Hospitality” theme card.

That’s a shame about the zoom and crop reducing the quality then Johanne as you really can’t tell from this picture! I agree that it looks great as a card. Definitely a house warming or something similar. I love it!

Oh this is gorgeous! The red is divine and it looks fantastic framed in all black!

  • Johanne Brunet replied

Thank you Joanne! This is really strange… This photo has been up for almost 10 months, with not much activity, and all of a sudden, it gets favourited three times in the same day. I wonder why it suddenly gets all this attention?...

Not that I’m complaining, au contraire! LOL!

It was in the image feed and caught my attention because of the red! How it got there is a mystery but if someone adds it as a favourite I think it is shown…
    Great shot! :-)

  • Johanne Brunet replied

Ahhh! This explains it then! A lady favourited a bunch of old work of mine yesterday, and it was among them… Thanks for replying! :-)
