Boyd Miller
This is a stunning portrait..sort of a Hitchcock presense…so artistic.
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Boyd! Wow, I had not thought about the Hitchcockness of it, but now that you mention it…
Shelly Hiebert
Johanne this is awesome! I agree with Boyd. Great composition and the light is perfect. Love it!
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Shelly! The lighting was unbelievably simple… I used a little LED reading lamp in a dark room.
Richard Veal
WOW. Awesome B&W SP. Great lighting Johanne, and great work.
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you so much Richard! That little LED reading lamp light that I used for this has become a must for me. I keep it in my camera bag and use it as as source of lighting in cases like this, but also when I go out at night to see what I’m doing. I can clamp it on my clothing and use it to light my camera when I change the settings. Last night it came in very handy when I dropped my little remote in the grass…
Richard Veal
Thank you for the explanation Johanne. It is so simple, and so effective.
You have given me ideas now. :-))
Paul Gibbons
Superb use of a little LED reading lamp! Love the lighting, excellent work.
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you so much Paul! :-)

Thank you Squealia, I really had fun making this shot along with 20 others before I got it right… LOL!
Carole Boudreau
You’re really cute on this pic Johanne look’s like a kid that just got cot doing something wrong!
Good shadows and sharp light contrast, contrast, contrast…bravo!
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Carole! I guess that “Oooops!” would be a fitting title for it too! ;-)
TomGooding
Fantastic lighting, but I think your eyes are what really makes it a great shot.
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Tom, it’s so nice of you to say! :-)

Thank you so much, Taylor! With the high quality of the other submissions, it never crossed my mind that my photo could win this challenge! Thank you all for voting!
Taylor Sawyer
I had it pegged between yours and the one that got 2nd place. I knew you two would be 1 and 2. I’m happy with the winner! It really portrays what I was getting at with Studio Lighting! Well done, Johanne!!!
Blair Wainman
Congratulations Johanne!!! What a fantastic and well deserved win!!! This is an awesome portrait shot and the imagery created in the B & W really makes this one what it is…a winner!!! Way to go Johanne!!!
Johanne Brunet replied
Blair, thank you so much for this lovely compliment! :-)

Hey Johanne, I’m going through P101ers looking for photos I’d like to use on the buttons for the group tagging project. I was wondering if its ok with you for me to use this one for “Artificial Lighting”. The title and your name will be on the button as well, and then when I have it all finished you will be asked to take this photo with a group tag indicating that its a good example of use of using artificial light. (Actually, I will probably have you tag this for thirds and portraiture too!) I dont want to use it with out yor permission so let me know if thats ok with you. If not, I understand! I will find another piece!
Johanne Brunet replied
Sure! Please do Taylor, it’s a great honour which I deeply appreciate. Please let me know when tagging time comes with the exact words you want. Thank you so much for doing this!
Taylor Sawyer
Yay, I finished all the buttons and will post them soon to the group! Please tag this photo with the following tags:
p101artllight
p101portrait
p101thirds
Johanne Brunet replied
Done! :-)
Taylor Sawyer
hey chicky, you have two L’s in light in the tag! p101artlight
Johanne Brunet replied
Oops! Sorry! I copied and pasted without really looking, I’ll correct it right away! :-)
Taylor Sawyer
I kept checking the buttons to see if they were working and for some reason yours just wasnt showing up on that one. SO I’m glad I looked at it! Thanks again, Johanne!
Marvin Tunstall
Awesome!
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Marvin! :-)
Wendi Donaldson
This is a great image…made me LOL after chatting with you!! ..... love the lighting and the light tip. Thanks. Congrats on the success you’ve had with this one too.
I’m thinking I could take one like this, but turn the light out! ....the legs wouldn’t work…the torso wouldn’t work….m.m.m…maybe a hand! :)
Johanne Brunet
Why not a hand? I have a shot of my hands too!! I bet that your hands are better than mine though, that’s not so hard… LOL! You just need to find a nice feature and work from that. The nape of your neck could be nice or even an delicate ear with a wisp of hair and a glamourous earing might work!! I’m sure there is something! :-)
amanda marx

Hiya Johanne! I just wanted to let you know that this piece was used as the cover image in the following challenge: Artificial Lighting II: Studio Portraits It was chosen because it won this particular challenge last time it ran. Please remember that you cannot reenter this piece, but you are more than welcome to enter another one from your portfolio! :-)
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Taylor! It’s always an honour to be featured as a challenge cover! Will try to see if something else fits this time around :-)
Carole Brunet
Congrats for your cover page in Photography 101. It’s deserved!
Johanne Brunet replied
Thank you Sis! It’s great, but it gets chopped off in a funny way… :-(

Hello! Great piece you have here! I’m making a feature banner for the group Oh So Emotional and I was wondering if I can use your piece in it (I would not alter it in any other way than cropping it). I plan to post on the front page of the group all the names of those people that allowed me to use their works in the banner with a link back to their album. Please let me know if you wouldnt mind my using this lovely piece! Thanks!
(By crop I mean that I will crop the face into a square. The banner will flip through several pieces of work that all have faces of varying emotions.)
Johanne Brunet replied 2 days ago
Well of course you can use it, Taylor! I’m really flattered that you would consider including my work in the group’s banner, and I consider it a great honour. Thank you so much! :-)
Taylor Sawyer 2 days ago
No, thank YOU so much!!! Don’t forget to join the group too! You have awesome pieces for it!
