I have just finished this painting as a commission for a lady to give to her husband as an anniversary gift.
This was how they met, about 12 years ago. They had just parked their boats next to one another (the ones in the painting) and both are still very keen sailors.
The challenge was what to do with the mass of boats and buildings all around. In the end I just left them out to keep the message simple.
It was painted on Arches Cold Press watercolor paper, 300 g.s.m., quarter sheet.
It all came together when the reflections were placed in.
I love painting sail boats even though I get sea sick in them – go figure! But I can appreciate the skill involved in sailing them and what sailors have gone through in the past.
