Sharing two figs and a lemon. by

This is a statement of New Zealand positioned in the Pacific and sharing many peoples and cultures.
A tabletop is placed facing the viewer with a tapa design as part of its surface. The table overlooks water toward distant hills with a bright sun/moon hanging in the blue sky. Two X’s are positioned into gateways on the water. The Cross is a mark of many signatories of the Treaty of Waitangi and a symbol associated with all cultures in various context. The lower half of the tablecloth is patterned with a European floral design and a blue vase is placed on the table with gold Asian-style foliage. The common lemon originates from Asia and the more exotic fig from the Mediterranean to remind the viewer of the range of the many peoples of Aotearoa.
‘McCahon’ hills loom up in the foreground also to remind us of the imposing rawness of the NZ landscape on which we have all placed ourselves. However blue is the predominate colour, the colour of the sea and sky that we all share.
