This photograph was taken at the Royal Derwent, which is an abandoned asylum in New Norfolk, Tasmania, Australia.

The building in the background is a ward that has been demolished to make way for development.

royal derwent, asylum, abandoned

Photography is my ‘passion’. I studied it in years 11 and 12, where I learned how to processes films in the dark room. Since then, my photography was restricted to digital compacts until I was able to afford an DSLR in 2010.

Until recently I had been doing a PhD in Agricultural Science at the University of Tasmania. I have recently decided that a career in science is not going to make me happy, so I am now studying graphic design.
