A collection of statuary graces the property surrounding Parliament Hill, in Ottawa CANADA.
This particular one of Alexander Mackenzie is of our 2nd prime minister who was in office from 1873 to 1878. He founded the Royal Military College in 1874, he created the Supreme Court of Canada in 1875 and the Office of the Auditor General in 1878. True to his democratic ideals, he refused to be knighted by the Queen three times.
The sculpture was designed by Quebecois Louis-Philippe Hebert in 1900 and was displayed at the Paris Universal Exposition prior to its installation on Parliament Hill in 1901. At the base of the statue of Mackenzie are two other figures.
This is what caught my eye and I named her Lady at the window or Lady in waiting. I beleive because of the accomplishments during Mackenzie’s career that it is Lady Justice but could not find any confirmation during my internet research. If anybody knows her origin or meaning I would be delighted to know…

Inside of every baffled artist, there is an image waiting to get out. But the neighborhood seems to have become invisible. As if all the game has migrated and that hunting’s at time waster. Worse, the days when there’s time for tramping the field too frequently are overcast and dreary, reinforcing the sense of discontent.
And then you show us how! How to control the Z axis. How to find a quality of light in a flat moment. How to juxtopose shape against form. And how to discover an allegory to wonder about when most of us would stay home with a good book. This is dauntingly wonderful Joanne. It needs to be studied in every photo workshop.

  • Thank you Ted, what a beautiful and inspired comment! It humbles me…

Excellent!! One of your best images ever!!! What Ted says… but the tonality rocks too!

  • Thanks so much Jan, this is my favourite from the day but I am not always certain how it will resonate with others!

Original capture, just like if we were in place of the statue admiring the architecture. Great description. Cheers :)
