Whiskey Sunset On Ice
Lake of Two Mountains, in the village of Oka Quebec, CANADA,taken on Saturday March 21st 2009 with Nikon D40, Nikkor VR 55-200mm lens.
The tracks you see carved into the ice in the foreground are made by the cars that pass daily on the “ice bridge” from one side of the shore to the other. This ice roadway is maintained by a private company, has been 100 years in existence and no accidents have ever happened. However, the day that we were there, we noted during the afternoon that several pools of water had emerged over top the ice in some places and we presume that was the last weekend of using the passage over the lake to get to the other side.

Wonderful colours and capture Joanne, l guess you would have to have some idea of the nature of the ice as to know when to stop using it, l don’t know whether l would be game enough to ever drive across it regardless, but then its not something we are really familiar with here ! You certainly live in a very beautiful place !

Very nice sunset Joanne. Compositionally the placement of the sun and horizon is excellent. Great that you were able to keep detail in the foreground when shooting into a setting sun. Interestingly enough photographer Joe McNally does say that water, because of it’s reflective characteristics, can be a light source. Which is why I guess the exposure is so well balanced here.
