Blacksmith
On the grounds of the Oka monastery, in Oka Quebec, is a blacksmith shop. On Saturday December 6th/08 while attending a Christmas craft fair, held in one of the barns, the public was invited to witness the blacksmith at work.
These artisans still use the tools of their forefathers. Today they produce various iron decorative objects such as candelabras and coffee tables in their shop in addition to the traditional work associated with rural life such as gates, agricultural tools, and horsehoes. It was a fascinating experience watching this young man demonstrate the skills needed for this ancient trade.

This process always interests me because my forefathers were blacksmiths. However, I think it would be one of the tougher jobs – particularly putting up with that heat! This does look like a modern forge compared to the hand-held bellows, etc. I remember seeing out in the shed when I was small. A nice atmospheric shot of a man at work – like the firelight reflected on all his tools in the cabinet!
