Mauve Coneflower
Coneflower taken in my garden October 2008.
There is something so ethereal about dried flowers in their natural setting…

Lovely shot, Joanne – and lovely quote not even taken from somebody else ;-) I think ethereal is probably the right word, when you have the dead petals alongside the living – though I’m not familiar with coneflowers. Do the petals stay alive for long, or is it the cone part that is the real flower?
Joanne Bradley replied
The whole flower is dried Shallay and it is a beautiful purple when alive in the late summer. Another name for them is echinacea and they have medicinal properties.

Now I’m with you – I’ve seen these in my local nursery, under the echinacea name, and next time will take a better look!

Wonderful Joanne…a little different from my painting wouldn’t you say?
Joanne Bradley replied
Yes it certainly is, but something I could envision you painting with a very dark rick background and much more intricate light on the petals…
