i once did a wee film called chasin the deer , in yin o the scenes we were a jacobite army marchin in the snow up to oor knees, i wiz in bare feet an it was freezin, to keep me sane i kept singin this song tae masel. it was perfect for the moment an i always picture in ma heed a highlnd army marchin in drivin snaw when i listen tae this , its yin o ma fav zepplin songs. the words are timeles an the music so atmospheric..i can imagine a bunch o hard highlanders crossin the mountains tae take thier revenge oan some unsuspectin enemy, in fact at the battle o inverlochy the duke o montrose marched 1500 men thirty miles in atrocious conditions over the most inhospitable mountain range in scotland on feb 3rd 1645 to out flank the marquis o argyles much larger army. montroses wee army destroyed argyles in one o the most daring manoveres in british history , the song is no quarter
Close the door, put out the light.
You know they won’t be home tonight.
The snow falls hard and don’t you know?
The winds of Thor are blowing cold.
They’re wearing steel that’s bright and true
They carry news that must get through.
They choose the path where no-one goes.
They hold no quarter.
Walking side by side with death, The devil mocks their every step
The snow drives back the foot that’s slow, The dogs of doom are howling more
They carry news that must get through, To build a dream for me and you
They choose the path where no-one goes.
They hold no quarter. They ask no quarter.
The pain, the pain without quarter.
They ask no quarter.
The dogs of doom are howling more!
snow, winter, history, highlanders, scotand, led zepplin, no quarter
