watt a wee hoose

this wee hoose has an important part to play in scottish history. it was in here around 1765 that James Watt a pioneer in steam engineering lived for a while and developed an engine used in a coal mine in Boness. The iron barrel you see next to the hoose was part of the engine. This was early in his career he went on to become extremely famous and the unit of energy the watt (like you see on light bulbs) was named after him.

watt a wee hoose belongs to the following groups:

As Is, Heritage in Stone and The Scots are Coming

Nice one Joak, I’ll go look at your other shot of Kinneil House now.

In 1769 and 1770, when John Roebuck was the tenant at Kinneil, he employed James Watt to undertake experiments to develop a more efficient steam engine capable of pumping water out of deep coal mines under the River Forth. Watt was eventually successful and his discoveries paved the way for more efficient Steam Engines. This is an incredibly important historic site and it has always amazed me that these important artifacts are not protected in any way.

as regards this young sir a quote fae you “sorry it wis the fit as in fit are ye doin that got me i appologise”

Ye ken fit there is no need o’gan and apologising ever!! I used fit purpousfully as I knew you would recognise Aberdonian instantly!! I love the Scots language from all parts, Ulster Scots included and try to educate the colonies in the tongue (Americans ) especially when I blog. I try to use Scots as often as I can it keeps the language alive. But you sir are doin a grand job all on your own far better than I bravo!!

Oh and thanks for reminding me about the word “drookit ” although I use the word I had forgotten to use it in any of my writings. ta muchly joak!
