Aimlessly dancing outside the window.
The trees are beginning to droop heavy and laden
As the white blanket covers the top sides of the branches.
I should have know the storm was coming
When I saw the birds flying south,
Sky full of fluttering wings
In v groups as they move away from the storms path.
Across the lawn the deer are cumulating,
Nibbling on the snow laden branches of the near by yew.
The morning white makes everything look clean and bright.
Even the dead garden weeds take on an interesting look,
Not like weed at all.
I think about the stream nearby and wonder if it is frozen over,
If the blue heron will have moved on to a more warmer site,
Replaced by snow geese from the north.
It must be hard to not have a warm home to nest in
Until the storm has passed.
Winter is best felt though, outdoors with the cold biting your nose.
The smell of snow brings back memories of childhood,
Sleighing, ice skating and snowball fights.
So many seasons have come and gone since then.
So many more to come.
