NYC view from the former World Trade Center Tower 2 through the very thick (and scratched) glass in the elevator going to the roof which is why the resolution isn’t the best. took this shot twenty years ago to the day. Olympus OM-2n. Tokina 35mm. unknown exposure. Kodak Tri-X 400.

Fab shot and one you can never take again.
One of my lifetime regrets is that I never made it up the twin towers. I had lunch in the restaurant on the ground floor once on a one day trip to NYC, but did not have the time to go up the tower.

  • J.K. York replied

never again were my thoughts exactly as i pulled this one out the old time machine. thanks.

Wow – a real keeper for sure! Great shot – scratched glass and all!

  • J.K. York replied

the scratches were easy to remove. the think glass made for a very muddy negative. had to work a lot of magic beyond unsharp mask to get it this far. thanks.

Wonderful shot, I remember my journey up there …still incredible to think of what has happened since then …...

  • J.K. York replied

it was quite an amazing ride and i’m not generally afraid of heights, but that trip had my heart going. all i could think on 9/11 was having been up there and knowing what a long way down it was.

You must be going through a sentimental/nostalgic phase James. Fabulous shot that means just so much now. No one could have possibly imaged the tragic future events. It would be hard to fathom standing up there looking down that one day these towers would be destroyed in such a devastating way. Sends a shiver down my spine.

  • J.K. York replied

i’m would like to say i’m amazed at how quickly people forget, but i’m not. it still makes me sick to my stomach to think about it.

Wonderful shot James….I get chills when ever I see these shots. I am very thankful today to have my daughter and son-in-law with me… on 911 one was at #2 Wall Street…they other 1 Liberty Plaza. My prays go to the ones that are not with us today.

  • J.K. York replied

Awesome shot that evokes a lot of memories. We were there 9-11 last year and would much rather have seen the actual structure rather than the continuing excavation.

  • J.K. York replied

thanks Al. the things we take for granted today may be gone tomorrow. thats the lesson we should learn i think.

Have never been to New York /but will never foget. Was in Hiroshima when all this happened and there were many Americans there on assignment/it was a nightmare for all/such a terrible terrible happening whch did terrible things to people on the day and the mind games that continued after are hardly worth thinking about. I usually just rode my bike around town but that morning I set off along the highway from Hiroshima and rode to Miyajima…...40 kms/my mind full of thoughts of our world and that freedom is precious and a right of all.

    thanks again for this image

  • J.K. York replied

i find the irony of your being in Hiroshima on that day quite epic. I have never been there (Hiroshima), but will never forget either. its a crazy world, but you are right- freedom is precious.

Awesome capture and a very interesting view considering the fate of the towers… I like the way you’ve composed the shot with the river in the foreground; it almost looks like the buildings are waiting in line to cross the river (although it could just be that I need to start getting more sleep, lol).

Many people do not see the beutiful world that we do. They are blocked at every turn and see only despair. They do not have the fulfillment of expression that we take for granted in spaces thike this. And so it gets crazy. The difference between democracy and anarchy is about six days without food. Thanks to all for sharing!
