B-130 on Approach
Olympus E-510. Zuiko 100mm. 1/400 f8. ISO 100.
Auto focus wouldn’t lock on fast enough for this so I had to go manual focus. It took about 100 shots before I got it!
Available for sale as Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

Super JK – I tried the same thing yesterday to try and get a macro of a hoverfly on the wing – managed 3 passable shots, but none as clear as this!

You got this through manual focus? Good God you must have the steadiest hands on the planet! You couldn’t buy a camera that would get an AF shot as good as this- the detail is crisp and perfectly in focus, plus you caught him at a great angle- and the background is blurred to perfection and doesn’t take anything away from the subject. Inspiring work.

This is a stunning piece of photography! I fight with autofocus and small images. Going manual isn’t any easier. You have endless patience and determination. Great work! (I’m still waiting for the bees to appear.)

Great work. I don’t particularly care for Autofocus, much prefer manual, but my present camera doesn’t give me that option.

ECGardner, 2 months ago
Wow, now that is an action shot! And I know from lots of experience that this is a damn hard shot to get, as well. I have been trying like crazy to get butterflies in flight, and out of about 1000 shots (literally) over 4 days, I managed 4 that were in focus. Only 4! So I consider it a testament to your exceptional skills with the camera that you got this in only 100 shots, lol. This is magnificent, James.
J.K. York in reply to ECGardner’s comment, 2 months ago
hey Erin. at least bees hover for moments. butterflies in flight don’t ever hover or follow any set flight plan :) i tried the BF in flight tight and gave up !!! Now, if I were in the Botanical Butterfly Garden in Gainesville, I might stand a better chance, lol.
