Great photo! I really like the way some of the feathers are “swished” sideways. Looks like the bird is about to fly off, or is steadying itself in the wind. Lovely composition, where the hawk is still king of his/her patch of sky!

Beautiful red-shouldered hawk, J.K.! I also really like the sense of spatiousness you get with the light. The sky is so bright, but the bird somehow seems underlit slightly. It’s a cool softness.
