I have a spiral stairway almost like this taken in Ireland (I’ll post it on this site shortly). I absolutely adore these kinds of staircases!! Lovely photo and light
There is something intriguing about these spots, Many Thanks Jill.
A great shot of this familiar place. And when I looked at it, even just the thumbnail, I knew exactly what it was! You may remember this phenom: in my kidhood, the walk across the old Lewiston-Queenston bridge was a wonderful & common experience (really wish they’d left that old suspension bridge alone, made it into a foot bridge), & after the long climb up the stairs from the road to Brock’s Monument, a climb to the top of the monument itself was MANDATORY. Paid your dime & started up. But as you know, it’s very narrow in there, & if you meet people along the way (up or down), it’s a squeeze. In Them Days, there was a LOT of grafitti on the walls of the spiral stairs, mostly written in lipstick. One of our kid delights was avoiding rubbing against the walls… if you did, you’d live to regret it. And then there was pushing the other kid against the walls… the narrow stone confines rang with laughter, & the occasional ‘Heyyyyyyyyy!’ But for years now, this lipstick-fest has not been tolerated, so that particular brand of fun has gone bye-bye. Good work, John. Wonder if it’s haunted by little ghoulies covered in red… not blood, though!
Strangely I never went to the monument until a few years ago. As a kid we never went to the Queenston area. Susan grew up in Niagara on The Lake so she turned me on to this. Thanks for the remember when Sheila!

great shot John. I haven’t been up there since I was a kid. I should make a point of getting some shots from the top……. if it’s still open
Thanks Dave, a great spot.
