A photography class in high school caught me by surprise. Composing and developing my own photographs was powerfully magnetic and liberating (with the exception of those cursed written exams!). I fell in love with making images. Yet, once the class was over, I no longer had access to cameras or equipment.
So, I saved my money (I had a part-time job) and bought a camera: a 35mm Minolta X-370. The camera and I had a love-hate relationship. I loved having my own camera and making photographs. I hated the expense and inconveniences that came with buying film and getting it processed (hey, I was just a kid). Eventually I left the art of “making photographs,” and moved on to girls and sports.
However, early in 2007, I woke up one day seeing “images.” I could see pictures within pictures. I saw simple compositions hidden within the complicated. I could see monochrome tones in a scene bursting with color. Yes, ladies and gentleman, the old “magnetic” feeling was back!
I am in love with making images again! So, I invite you to journey with me in my continued growth as an artist and photographer.
I’ve become very passionate about what I call “location” photography. I enjoy the challenge. I enjoy the spontaneity. I enjoy the realism. I create photographs that capture the essence of my subjects and certain moments in time. I deliver black-and-white and color images that are quiet, yet dynamic, through a photo-journalistic eye and a studious view of the details in the cities, towns, and people around me.
With careful composition, a keen eye for strong lines, forms, and textures, I create images that are spontaneous, moody, and honest for the fine art and editorial markets.
Welcome to the journey!
