Quite similar in appearance to its cousin, the California Poppy but lacks a prominent disc at the base of the flower head. Poppies are members of the Chaparral plant community and can cover entire hillsides, each spring.
The Tufted Poppy is found, primarily throughout California and Oregon. Few people know that the Poppy is the source for Codine and Morphine, two drugs that save many from chronic pain. We can’t forget that the Poppy is also the source for Opium, an addictive and destructive drug. Fortunately, most see the poppy as a beautiful and incredible addition to our natural environment.
