Artist's Description

Unusual geographical formations occur in the exposed coastal strata in the Montana de Oro State Park, located on California’s Central Coast, in San Luis Obispo. This stratified material is known as the Monterey Formation, silica-rich layers of earth and Diatoms (Algae, with shells of silica). The bleached fracture lines may be caused by the movement of oil or oxygen through the layers.
