I captured this shot in the summer of 96’. A friend and I were walking around Detroit and came across two people waiting for a bus along Woodward Ave. I set up my tripod and snapped the shot.
I was curious when I saw the thumb but then when I opened it I was almost speechless. This is absolutely superb!!!! You captured sooooo much here. Then when I read your caption I was really taken aback. My home is Detroit I can remember my mother and I waiting for the streetcar on Woodward Avenue after spending the day at Hudson and Crowleys and then ending the day with an Ice Cream/ Waffle sandwich at Woolworths with a glass of Vernors Gingerale. All of this might mean absolutely nothing to you if you are not a native Detroiter and over 60 but your picture certainly means a lot to me. And by the way, I too was a little African American girl with pigtails.
Thank you everyone. Cooki? Thank You..Thank You..Thank You..Just reading your comment is exactly why I take pictures. You have made my day and I’m so glad you like it.
gorgeous shot and Cooki’s comment just adds so much to it. I can’t wait to come to America and see this stuff…but I am afraid it won’t be as cool as the photos….

This is a wonderful, timeless picture. Although I’ve never been to Detroit and don’t know the ladies in the photo, it makes one miss them somehow. Just great! :-)
