I snapped this shot in Ecorse, a small town, south of Detroit, Mi. The states largest steel maker, U.S. Steel, idled their Great Lakes division in Ecorse. This industries woes coupled with the U.S. Automakers problems sent Michigan’s jobless rate to 14% The highest it’s been since 1983.

    It is soooooo sad! I remember Ecorse and River Rouge as very active middle class communities with a lot of growth potential. You should try to sell this picture to the Free Press. But, I guess it would be considered advertisement. You have captured the “What’s going on”…..

  • Thank you Cooki! As you already know the U.S economy is in bad shape, but from what I read, Michigan has been in a recession for over six years.
