On Racial Profiling

What are we doing to our black brothers?
Profilin’ and scratchin’ them itchy trigger fingers
Two murdered in the last month
By reactionist swine
If their killers were black or brown
They’d already be servin’ time

Such trials and tribulations
Deserve closer examinations
That superficial changes in the pigment of our masters
Will undo the history of past chapters
Of a country founded upon violence against the other
Is simply an illusion
That does our critical thinking no extra favor

All people
Young and old
Deserve to walk the streets
Without being told
Only to be frisked
For to be frisked
Is to be judged
Guilty before innocent
And yet this is played off
As reasonable suspicion
But this is just bogus justification
For the worst of desecration
To plant the seeds of fear and paranoia
Into the minds of the youth
Done in the name of protecting and serving the public trust
But to the parents of Ramarley and Trayvon
These words ring hollow
As their childrens’ bodies are reduced to dust
There must be another solution

Huey, Eldridge, Bobby and Fred
Had a righteous plan
Raise awareness in your community
Confront power directly
No wonder the state wanted them dead
Do you now see the correlation
Between state power and freedom deprivation?

To honor our martyrs
We must not simply seek justice
But a society which does not label
And superficially base
Judgment on the basis of someone’s face
We must confront directly
The reactionary instant results driven thinking
That clouds our judgment
And leaves no one safe
