Jim Ferringer Statement & Selected History
Art that we live, art that we experience, is a way that we share what happens in our lives. My art is not about making a beautiful photograph, it is about telling a story, sharing a thought, or exploring an idea. There are lots of artists doing figurative work, but how many take the chance of expressing—exposing—their inner self? There is nothing wrong with pretty pictures, but for me art must be more.
Art is a product of its time. It comes with history, and too often it reflects the pain that goes into creating it. It is the artist who brings social issues to the forefront. It is the artist who takes risks. It is the artist who suffers the rejection and torment society shovels on them.
I want to work with models who don’t have to be perfect. We are all flawed. Some live with that and become stronger, some deny and hide their flaws, others accept the changes we all experience and build upon them. Perfection is not beauty, beauty comes from inside those who accept what life has dealt them. These are the people I want to show in my art. Live, learn, and share. The world is filled with stories waiting to be told.
