I was working in this historic house and looked up and saw this awesome image through a screened window … luckily I had a plastic 35 mm camera in my pocket! I composed several different shots with the lens up against the screen to minimize distortion. This version was first shown on metallic paper in Nature of Duality, 2nd Annual Hudson County Statewide Arts Exhibition, Historic Brennan Court House, Jersey City, in November 2007.
It was a very cold, windy, sunny March 2007 day and the sun was thawing the heavy snow on the roof, but the melt froze when it hit the branches of this lilac bush and formed this large complex icicle, about 3 feet wide. The wind had blown this remarkably springy lilac and broken the first generation icicle and the branch rose up. A second icicle was in the midst of forming at a different angle on the first, droplets of melting snow were freezing as they fell on all this … Awesome, mysterious, so many shapes and images emerge, so Untitled is my preferred title … you decide what this image means to you …
Shown in the 55th Annual Regional Exhibition, Hudson Artists of New Jersey, Bayonne Public Library, Avenue C at 31st Street, Bayonne, NJ, November – December 6, 2008, printed on archival metallic paper (100 – 200 years!)
