The best defense of a whitetail deer fawn is to lie low and remain motionless. This is due to the fact that they are almost completely scent free at this young age and their inability to outrun any predators. With nerves of steel, they lay in wait for their mother to return and get them. This allowed me to walk up and capture an up close photo of the beautiful little guy…or gal. I left the fawn undisturbed so as not to irritate his mother. This photo was captured in southeastern Saskatchewan.
