Are we going to get the rebirth? I find the whole process so fascinating and beautiful. I spend hours waiting by an almost ready to eclose pupa, leave the room for the briefest time, et voila, a butterfly!j
I hope so,Jesika! But this pupa will hatch not earlier than May/June next year.Unlucky for you that you just missed it!(what kind of species?)Next time more luck,I hope.Cheers,Jim
Great work, fascinating !!
I’ve waited for more moths & butterflies than I can remember. I’ve got Old Lady and Gothic moth pupae – next July hopefully and a Woolly Bear (Garden Tiger Moth) trying to decide whether or not to pupate. Sometimes I’m lucky & get to film & photograph the process. I have been fortunate to photograph everything from meeting & mating to eclosion & first flight – magic…j
Yes,I agree.Magic, every time again!Probably next year I’ll get some eggs from the oleander Hawk Moth(Daphnis nerri).A beautiful and interesting species too!Jim
How brilliant is this, I ask!? Well done – by both you AND the caterpillar.
Thanks a lot,Sheila. It was the first time for me to see this happening live and I’m very happy with the photo-results.I’ve spent a lot of time waiting for this special moment. The caterpillar is very vulnerable during the whole process.Cheers,Jim
