Beautiful sunset colours reflected into the sky provided a beautiful backdrop to this cemetery memorial located at Bega, southern NSW.

Created from a 3 image HDR/tone map.

This is a stunning shot. I love the processing you’ve done, wish I knew how to do this.

  • Hi Raquel thx for the comments. The clours were those of the sky – sunset reflecting onto clouds – so nothing really changed there. Processing for this consists of taking 3 different exposures (tripod mount) – processing in HDR software with high contrast – then into photoshop to remove tree branches and the base support just by cloning and recloning some of the lower sky using lower opacity at the edges on the base – then some very simple “dodging” to get a little more light on the face – last but not least was to apply a gradient mask layer (radius setting /inverted) which is set for 40% soft light. Obviously some people like the efeect, others don’t. Please bubblemail me if you want more info.

Wow, thank you for the info, I will have to try a few of those techniques I’ve not used before and see what I can come up with on some old shots of mine.

This is really exquisite, Jim! It has a real otherworldly quality and marvellous colours!

  • thankyou Gerda – I try to find an interesting story or some wonderful colour and contrast within cemteries rather than just old cold stone work by itself
