1949 Mercury Woody Wagon Hood Ornament

Nikon D2X
35-70mm f2.8 nikon lens
shot at 44mm 1/40@ f2.8
iso 800
tungsten light
The shallow depth of field created the liquid effect
of the reflected tungsten light in the hood… while the out of focus tail gives the appearance of motion
the trick is to shoot multiple frames… bracketing… i choose normal +1/2 -1/2… i do several series of these…
here is why… with the high iso there is noise… with the low shutter speed there is camera shake… the normal or overexposed will have less noise but more chance of camera shake… the darker version more noise but less chance of camera shake… taking 9 frames helps the odds…
noise can be helped in Lightroom 3… camera shake can not… so more often than not at these settings i will end up lightening an underexposed frame and use noise reduction in lightroom
with digital under these conditions it’s always best to over shoot and hope you were steady at least once…. or get out a tripod

i believe that it is YOU making the lighting look good!! again with the comp, and the light and the great colors. outstanding work, my friend!
I guess i see the light… but most of the time when i’m in post production I’m surprised at what i got… so i think a lot of my shooting actually is on an instinctive or subconscious level… or i have very, very short term memory

I don’t know how other people see this in comparison to my other work, but it is one of my new favorites
– Jill Reger
i’d agree…it ranks up there as one of my favorite images from your hood ornament collection. and i absolutely believe that you don’t consciously see it…that’s what true artistry is about…knowing it and feeling it in your subconscious mind
see i’m not crazy
