    G’day Jill – interesting that this tree is so old and petrified, rather than just dried out. This must be a unique part of the world you are bringing us and the jackal in the distance is a real bonus. What would they hunt in such an apparently desolate landscape? An interesting capture. :)george

  • Thanks George, this is a very unique and stunning part of the world and I was lucky to see it for myself. I’ve never seen a photo of Deadvlei with an animal in the photograph before and this was a surprise to me when I saw it. Jackals eat almost anything including rats and mice, birds, insects, reptiles…lots of snakes around these parts.~ cheers
